Around The Bays Flax and Fish by Kirsty White
Around The Bays Flax and Fish by Kirsty White
More info about Kirsty can be found on the “Meet Our Artists” page.
Kirsty lives in Lyall Bay, Wellington. These pen drawings are converted into dry point etchings (etching being an age-old European form of illustration), and the landscapes are merged with her collection of pattern work - inspired by Pacific Island masi or tapa cloth and Maori whakairo. This enables Kirsty to incorporate historic narratives of the site within a contemporary artwork. Story telling through pattern work is common across cultures here in the Pacific. She weaves it into her art to express that identity and to embrace the position of NZ here in the Pacific.
Around The Bays ‘Flax’ and ‘Fish’ are framed in black wood with glass, and measure 28cm wide by 23cm high. Each is sold separately.
Now also available from the Into The Bush series is Ponga - same measurements as the other two.
