Artist, outlaw, career criminal - if you Google artist Simon Kerr, you will find all these descriptors for him.

But there's more to Simon than the chequered history of offending and incarceration that he lived from the age of 15. While in prison, he discovered art and was recognised as having considerable talent (for which he credits his mother). All his exhibitions have sold out. He is one of few whose lives have changed for the better through being in prison.

Now living in Napier, Simon’s art is gaining a momentum in Hawkes Bay that has been experienced in other main centres. His work is bright, descriptive, punchy. It creates discussion and interpretation, and the more you learn about the artist and his art, the more you want to see.
